IPTV on Windows and macOS: how to install Xtreme IPTV
The quickest way to confirm your subscription works is on a computer, so it is the first place to check when another device acts up.
4 steps · roughly 5 minutesLast tested
What you need first
- Your login details, which we email as soon as the order is confirmed: an M3U link, or a server address plus a username and password.
- An internet connection on the device you plan to watch on.
- A measured speed on that device of about 15 Mbps for Full HD, or 25 Mbps for 4K.
Recommended player app
VLC media playerby VideoLAN · videolan.org
It has no programme guide and makes no attempt to be a TV app, but it will play a playlist in thirty seconds — the quickest way to show that a stream works.
Free and open source, with no ads and no in-app purchases. More than 500 million downloads on Google Play alone; the Windows and macOS versions come from videolan.org. Last checked 4 October 2026.
Treat it as a test tool rather than somewhere to watch: it has no guide, no channel groups and nothing designed for a remote.
None of these apps are ours, and their developers pay us nothing. Your subscription runs in any player that accepts an M3U link or an Xtream Codes login; we suggest this one only because it performs best on this device in our experience.
Step-by-step instructions
- 1
Get a player
The simplest option is VLC, from videolan.org. For a programme guide and channel groups, ask support which desktop player we recommend.
- 2
Load your playlist
In VLC, go to Media, then Open Network Stream, and paste the M3U link from your credentials email. A desktop IPTV player takes the Xtream Codes login instead.
- 3
Wait for the channels
In VLC the channels appear as one flat playlist. A dedicated player groups them and loads the guide.
- 4
Treat it as your test bench
When a channel plays here but not on the television, the fault lies with that device or its app, not with your subscription. Checking this once saves you an evening of changing settings at random.
Where most installs go wrong
Judging the whole service by VLC. It is built without a programme guide or channel groups, so next to a proper player it will always look bare. Use it for testing, not for watching.
Windows and macOS questions
- Is there anything to set up in VLC?
- Nothing. Paste the M3U link into Open Network Stream and playback starts. You do not log in and you do not pay.
- Can I watch in a web browser?
- This subscription does not come with a web player. On a computer, use VLC or a desktop player.
- It works on my computer but not on my TV box.
- That tells you the subscription and the connection are working, and the issue is the box or its app. Let support know what you saw and we will handle it from there.
