Fixing “Failed to authorize” in IPTV Smarters
You press Add User and IPTV Smarters comes back with “Failed to authorize”, “Authorization failed” or “Invalid username or password”. In nearly every case the app itself is fine. What goes wrong is one of three things: the details typed into it, the status of the account those details belong to, or a network that will not let the server through. The checks below are ordered so the most likely fix comes first. They hold for any provider, and the account checks at the end match what Xtreme IPTV support looks at for its own customers.

Why the app shows this error
When you add a user, the app passes your server address, username and password to the server. This error means the server turned them down, or replied in a form the app could not read. Your installation is not at fault, which is why a reinstall seldom changes anything: the fresh copy sends identical details and receives the identical reply.
Work through these checks, in this order
- 1
Take the server URL from your email, character for character
A valid address has three pieces: http:// in front, then the server name, then a colon and a port number — for example http://name.example:8080. Leave out http:// or the port, let a stray space slip in at either end, or add anything after the port (a slash, /get.php), and the login fails. The app appends that final piece on its own. If your provider’s address has no port, or begins with https://, type it exactly as you received it; do not tack :8080 onto it.
- 2
Pick the login type that matches your details
If you were given a server URL plus a username and password, the option you want is “Login with Xtream Codes API”. If you were given a single long link, use “Load your playlist or file/URL”. Correct details entered on the wrong screen still fail.
- 3
Paste the username and password instead of typing them
Capitals matter in both, and a television keyboard makes a capital O hard to tell from a zero. Copy them out of the email on your phone, or try them on the phone first so you know they work before you move to the television.
- 4
Make sure the account is active
This exact message is what you get when the details are used before activation has finished, or once the paid period is over. The dates are in your welcome email. Renewing does not change the username or password, so the device needs no changes afterwards.
- 5
Make sure no other device is playing
A subscription covers one stream at a time. If a phone or another television is already watching, quit the app on it, then try the login again.
- 6
Remove the user from IPTV Smarters and add it fresh
Once a profile is saved, the app holds on to its details, typos included. Delete that user from the list and create a new one, pasting the details in again.
- 7
Try a phone hotspot to rule out your network
Certain internet providers and public Wi-Fi networks block IPTV servers. When that happens the app may show “Authorization failed for above host”, or wait until it times out and show “Failed to authorize”. Switch on your phone’s hotspot, join it from the television or stick, and make one attempt. A successful login there means your details are correct and your home network is doing the blocking. Setting a different DNS on the device or the router (1.1.1.1, for example) often gets around it; where DNS does not, a VPN does.
- 8
Let the device set its clock automatically
On some devices, a date or time well off the real one breaks secure connections. Turn on automatic date and time in the device settings, then restart the app.
- 9
If every device worked yesterday, give it a few minutes
Details that worked before and now fail on all your devices at once point to a problem outside your home. Wait a few minutes and try one more time before you change anything else.
Check the details in another player
On a computer, open VLC and go to Media then Open Network Stream (on a Mac, File then Open Network), then paste in the M3U link from your welcome email. Channels that play in VLC prove the account and the details work, so the fault lies in how they were entered in IPTV Smarters. If VLC fails as well, the issue sits before any player, and a message to us will sort it out faster than any setting.
Contacting support
Include these three things
Send a screenshot of the error, tell us which device and app you are on, and say whether the VLC test worked. That is enough for us to look at the account from our end and come back with the answer, normally with no follow-up questions.
Questions readers ask
- Does reinstalling IPTV Smarters get rid of “Failed to authorize”?
- Seldom. A reinstalled app sends the same details and the server replies the same way. What clears a profile saved with a typo is deleting that user and adding it again with the details pasted in fresh.
- Why does the login work on my phone and fail on my television?
- Most often a character mistyped with the remote, or a different login type selected on the television. Copy the details over from the phone, and if you have a server URL, make sure the television is set to “Login with Xtream Codes API”.
- What is “Authorization failed for above host”?
- The same rejection; some versions of the app just phrase it this way. Look at the server URL first. If the details are correct, test on a phone hotspot, since this wording often shows up when the network is blocking the server.
- My subscription came from another seller. Do these steps still help?
- They do. Any provider that issues an Xtream Codes login is checked the same way. The one exception is the final step: only the seller of your subscription can check the account itself.
- Is “Failed to authorize” a sign that my subscription has been blocked?
- Not by itself. A typo, a missing port, an account that has not been activated yet or one that has expired all produce the same message. Start with the details and the dates in your welcome email.
