IPTV not working? Fix it step by step.

Here are nine frequent IPTV faults, from “Failed to authorize” and buffering to an empty channel list, a channel that refuses to play and a blank guide. They appear in the order people tend to hit them, with the cause explained before the fix. Most take under five minutes to solve on your own; if yours does not, Xtreme IPTV support will look at your account for you.

IPTV Smarters shows “Failed to authorize”

Instead of the channel list, IPTV Smarters (or a player like it) answers your Add User or Login with “Failed to authorize”, “Authorization failed” or “Invalid username or password”.

  1. 1.The server address is in a format the player does not accept

Take the server URL from your welcome email exactly as written, with http:// at the front and the port number after the colon (:8080, for example). Strip any space at either end, and delete anything after the port, such as a trailing slash or /get.php, because the player adds that part on its own.

  2. 2.The username or password has a typo

Capitals count in both, and on a television keyboard a capital O is easy to confuse with a zero. Paste them from the email instead of retyping, or check them on a phone first to be sure they work.

  3. 3.The login type does not match the details

Smarters has more than one way to sign in. A server URL with a username and password goes under “Login with Xtream Codes API”; a single long link goes under “Load your playlist or file/URL”. Pick the wrong one and even correct details are refused.

  4. 4.The subscription is not active yet, or its period is over

This is the exact message for details used before activation has finished or after the paid period has run out. The dates are in your welcome email, and renewing keeps the same username and password.

  5. 5.A different device is already logged in and playing

A subscription covers one stream at a time. Stop the stream on the other device, quit the app there, then log in again.

  6. 6.The service is down for a short while

When details that worked yesterday fail on all your devices today, the cause is not at your end. Give it a few minutes and try one more time before you change anything.

No channels show up in the list

Your details go through with no complaint, and then the app shows a blank screen: no channels, no groups, and in most cases no error telling you why.

  1. 1.The port is missing from the server address

This explains most cases. The address must finish with a colon followed by a number, as in http://example.com:8080. Without the port, the app asks the wrong place, receives nothing, and displays an empty list rather than an error. Copy it again from the email instead of typing it from memory.

  2. 2.A space or line break got pasted into the M3U link

Email clients often slip an invisible character into copied text. Paste the link into a plain text field first, make sure it sits on a single unbroken line, then paste it into the app.

  3. 3.On a Samsung or LG television, the playlist is tied to the wrong MAC address

The MAC must be the one shown inside the app, not your phone’s or your router’s. A single wrong character causes exactly this.

  4. 4.The subscription term has run out

Plans do not renew on their own; they just stop. If you are not sure how much of your term is left, ask us and we will check.

Getting help from us: If the address is correct, the link is clean and your term is still running, write to us and include the address exactly as you typed it, not a description of it. Within minutes we can tell you whether the problem is at your end or ours.

The stream buffers, stutters or loses quality

The channel freezes for a second or two, then jumps forward and carries on. Or it keeps playing but looks less sharp than it should.

  1. 1.Wi-Fi, and in particular where the device is placed

A streaming stick sits behind the television, usually the weakest spot in the room for signal, with a metal screen between it and the router. Play the same channel on a phone placed next to the router. If it runs smoothly there, the placement is to blame, not the service. An Ethernet adapter solves it permanently.

  2. 2.The watching device does not get enough bandwidth

Full HD needs around 15 Mbps and 4K about 25 Mbps. Test the speed on that device itself rather than on a laptop elsewhere in the house, and test in the evening, not at midday.

  3. 3.Another device is eating into the connection

A console pulling down an update, or a second stream elsewhere in the home, gets the bandwidth before you do. Pause them, then go back to the same channel.

  4. 4.The device is too old for the stream

A first-generation Fire TV Stick will accept a 4K stream and then struggle to play it. Lowering that channel’s quality in the player settings usually fixes it on the spot.

Getting help from us: A wired device on 25 Mbps that still buffers on several channels at the same time is worth reporting. Send us the channel names and the approximate time it happened.

No channel plays at all

Every channel fails, most often with a loading spinner that never stops or an error code that explains nothing.

  1. 1.Before touching any setting, run the control test

On a computer, open VLC, go to Media then Open Network Stream, and paste the M3U link from your email. If it plays, your subscription and your connection both work, and the fault is in the player on the other device. If it fails in VLC too, the problem sits before any player and no setting will solve it. This single test spares you an evening of changing options at random.

  2. 2.A different device is already playing

A subscription covers one stream at a time. The second device tends to fail with a message that blames the stream instead of saying what is really happening.

  3. 3.The login details were mistyped

Capitals count in both the username and the password. Typing with a television remote makes mistakes easy, so enter them on a phone first to check they work, then on the television.

Getting help from us: If VLC on a computer fails as well, write to us right away and mention it. That one detail tells us where to look and saves three rounds of messages.

A single channel fails while the others work

Everything plays apart from one channel or a handful of them, and it is often the one you wanted to watch.

  1. 1.That channel’s source is down right now

When one channel fails and the rest play normally, your setup is almost never the cause. No change on your device can bring back a source that is not sending a signal.

  2. 2.The same channel appears twice in the list

Big playlists often list one channel in both HD and FHD, each from a different source. Try the other entry before you decide the channel is gone.

Getting help from us: Give us the channel name exactly as your list shows it. We can only fix what we can find, and "the sports one" matches forty entries.

The app refuses to install

The installation fails, the app is missing from the store, or the device rejects the file.

  1. 1.On Fire TV, installs from unknown sources are turned off

Go to Settings, then My Fire TV, then Developer options, and allow installs for the app you are downloading with. If Developer options does not appear, open Settings, My Fire TV, About, and click the device line seven times.

  2. 2.On Android TV, the box is not Google Play certified

When the Play Store reports that an app is unavailable on your box, the box is usually the reason, not the app. Write to us and we will send another way to install on that model.

  3. 3.On iPhone, you installed a copycat app

Several App Store listings use the same name but come from different developers. Check the developer line, not only the app title.

Getting help from us: Tell us the exact device model. A Fire TV Stick 4K and a Fire TV Cube need different answers, and so can two Android boxes that look the same.

The programme guide is blank or incorrect

Channels play, yet the guide is empty, lists the wrong programmes, or lists them at the wrong times.

  1. 1.The guide is still downloading

The channel list arrives first and the guide comes after it. With a large playlist, the first load takes around a minute. Keep the app open instead of restarting it, since a restart begins the download again from scratch.

  2. 2.The clock or time zone on the device is wrong

If the guide is correct but off by a whole number of hours, the device’s time zone is the problem, not the guide data. Look at the date and time settings on the television.

  3. 3.The player is pointed at another guide source

Some players allow you to set the EPG to your own URL. If someone has changed it, switch it back to the one supplied with your playlist.

Getting help from us: Still no guide an hour later on a wired device? Send us a photo of the screen; it is quicker than describing it.

It was working yesterday and stopped today

You changed nothing, yet the service that ran all week has suddenly stopped working.

  1. 1.The term is over

Each plan runs for its term and then stops. Nothing renews automatically, so no failed payment warns you. If you do not know your end date, ask and we will look it up.

  2. 2.Someone else is using the login details

Sharing the login outside your household ends the subscription. If you passed it to someone to "try", that is most likely the reason.

  3. 3.The app updated overnight

An update can reset a player setting. Entering the playlist again takes two minutes and rules this out.

Getting help from us: Write to us from the email address on your order and tell us when it last worked. That narrows things down straight away.

A second device refuses to play

The television plays without trouble while the phone refuses, usually with an error that points at the stream.

  1. 1.A subscription covers one stream at a time

This is how it is meant to work, not a fault. Your login can be set up on as many of your own devices as you want, but only one of them can play at any given moment.

  2. 2.The first device never really stopped

Closing the app does not always end the stream, because some players keep it running in the background. Force-close the app on the first device, wait about thirty seconds, then start the second one.

Getting help from us: If you need two screens playing at once, ask us about adding a connection instead of trying to work around the limit.

Installing for the first time?

Every guide walks through a single platform in order and points out the error people most often make on that specific device.
